Charity home nominated Vena, 47, to pursue a professional home-nursing course; she was then open for promotion as a caregiver on a better salary.

A 47-year-old Filipina who was first hired as a cleaner has become a professional caregiver winning hearts and praise from elderly people at a nursing home in Pingtung, in southern Taiwan.

The Filipina Vena has professional qualifications as a nurse and that was the work she did for two years prior to her arrival in Taiwan as a domestic helper years ago. Later, she married a Taiwanese man and became a full-time housewife taking care of the man and his son.

About two years ago, her husband had fallen ill, so Vena decided to go back to work – as a cleaner at Hsiaoai Jenai Charity Home in Pingtung, after taking bridging courses and getting a successful referral from the government’s Chaozhou Employment Service Center.

Since then she has helped caregivers with various tasks and won high praise from the elderly patients. Indeed, Vena was nominated by the charity home to pursue a professional home-nursing course. And after doing that, she was promoted as a caregiver with a better salary.

Vena said she had greater job satisfaction as her new duties enabled her to recall good memories of her early days as a nurse. They also made good use of her skills in looking after needy elderly patients, according to a report by the Central News Agency.

OFW Received her Livelihood Kits from OWWA “Balik Pinas Balik Hanap Buhay Program”

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) had recently launch their Program tagged as “Balik-Pinas Balik-Hanapbuhay”  as support to Overseas Filipino Workers who had decided to return to the country.

One of their recipient is Rosalina Casuga from Baguio City who had decided to leave Malaysia after working there for 6 months because according to her, the salary which was indicated in the contract which she signed was not implemented.

Ms. Rosalina B. Casuga from Upper San Carlos, Baguio City received livelihood starter kits/ grocery items for her sari-sari store business under the Balik Pinas Balik Hanapbuhay Program.
This program is a livelihood assistance intended to provide relief to returning member OFWs who were displaced from their jobs due to wars/political conflicts in host countries or were victims of illegal recruitment and/or human trafficking or other distressful situations.

She was thanking OWWA for extending assistance by funding a sari-sari store for her.

She received her starter kit livelihood assistance last June 2, 2017.

The Program aims to give support to the returning OFWs who  had been victims of illegal recruitment, abused by  employers, human trafficking and under distressful circumstances, displaced by hostilities or those that are trapped in war in the country where they work.

This is a good news for all OFWs.  This is a way of giving another hope for them whose faith did not turn out to be successful in a foreign land.

This is also one way of making their return to the country worthwhile so they don’t need to leave their families to work abroad.

A Filipino Risks Own Life to Save Two Chinese Nationals in the Middle of Typhoon “Hato”

Filipinos are highly preferred by foreign employers for being known to be of good character, being hard working, industrious and diligent. This time, another Filipino proved that these qualities are innate characteristics of being a Filipino anywhere in the world.

Recently, typhoon “Hato” has hit Macau and Hong Kong where a lot of houses and properties were damaged brought by strong winds and heavy rains in its maximum category 10.

A TV news report has shown a ‘heroic’ deed from a Filipino who saved two Chinese nationals trapped in the middle of a flood with wooden debris floating in turbulent waters.

According to the report, Loreto, the husband of a certain Jhunnafe Mijares risked his life to save a Chinese who has been submerged in water struggling against water up to neck high.

Jhunnafe was able to film the incident as Loreto went on top of a stranded car and got the Chinese using a life buoy.

Chinese residents from the third floor of a nearby building helped Loreto by throwing some ropes which he later on used to remove the second Chinese citizen out of danger.

Kudos to this brave Filipino who risked his life just to be able to help others in times of need!

A domestic helper is someone who renders his or her services for handling chores and other responsibilities within residential households. They are usually called maids, housekeepers,  or “yayas.” The professional term, however, is domestic helper or household worker.

In the Philippines, many people in this profession choose to work abroad in order to earn more. This is due to the fact that, upon conversion, foreign currency has a higher value than that of the Philippine peso. As unfortunate as this sounds, it is the sad truth.

Do you know how much a Filipino domestic helper earns in the different countries around the world?Here is a breakdown of their earnings:

BAHRAIN – The usual salary of a domestic helper here is BHD (Bahraini Dinar) 160 or ₱21,376+.

BRUNEI – Filipino helpers typically earn US $400 or ₱20,000+.

CHINA – Helpers in this country earn around 4,500 to 6,000 Yuan or ₱33,000 to ₱45,000+.

CYPRUS – Helpers in Cyprus, Mediterranean earn 324 to 400 Euros or ₱18,000 to ₱23,000+.

CANADA – Domestic helpers in this country earn around C$ (Canadian dollar) 14.44 or ₱570+ per hour.

DUBAI – Workers in Dubai are paid based on their employer’s preference and one’s length of service. They usually pay around 1,500 Dirhams or ₱20,500+

EGYPT – A domestic helper in this country earns around $450 and $700 or ₱22,600 to ₱35,000+ per month, with additional benefits.

FRANCE – A domestic helper here earns around $650 and $750 or ₱32,700 to ₱37,700+ .

GUAM – A helper earns around 600 to 650 Euros or ₱35,600 to ₱38,600+.

HONG KONG – Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong do not have an estimated rate since their pay is based on their employer’s preference. However, the minimum pay is HKD (Hong Kong dollars) 4,310 or ₱27,765.

Some Filipinas claim they only earn HKD 4,210 or ₱27,121. If one is lucky, they might earn HKD 5,000 or ₱32,000+ .

Others reportedly receive HKD 6,200 or ₱39,940, while others earn as much as HKD 8,000 or ₱51,000+.

IRELAND – A domestic helper in Ireland earns around 4,300 Euros or ₱255,000+. However, the source claimed that the figure is still unverified.

ISRAEL – Workers in this country earn around $1,300 or ₱65,000+. The rate may be higher or lower depending on the employer.

JAPAN – Domestic helpers here earn JP (Japanese Yen) ¥136,203 or ₱61,000+.

KUWAIT – Helpers here earn around 100 to 120 Kuwaiti Dinars or ₱16,000 to ₱20,000+.

SAUDI ARABIA – They earn around 1,500 to 2,000Saudi riyal or ₱20,000 to ₱26,000+

LEBANON – Helpers here receive $400 or ₱20,000+

MALAYSIA – A domestic helper here earns 1,500 to 1,600 Malaysian Ringgit or ₱7,000 to ₱18,000+

MACAU – They earn around 5,000 Pataca or ₱41,000+

MOROCCO – Helpers earn around 4,000 Moroccan Dirhams or ₱21,000.

OMAN – They earn around 120 to 140 Omani Riyal or ₱15,000 to ₱18,000+

QATAR – The rate depends on the employer but domestic helpers usually earn 1,200 to 1,460 Qatari Riyal or ₱16,000 to ₱20,000+

SINGAPORE – They earn around 550 to 750 Singaporean Dollars or ₱20,000 to ₱27,000+

Credit Loans To OFWs

House of Congress Approved House Bill 4985 Granting Credit Loans to OFWs

Under House Bill 4985 or the proposed Overseas Workers Credit Assistance Act, OFWs may borrow up to P50,000 from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to defray the living expenses of his or her family during the first months of absence or to pay for recruitment expenses including placement fees, documentation costs and plane tickets.

However, only OFWs with valid employment contracts processed through licensed recruitment and manning agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) may avail themselves of a loan.

Under the proposed legislation, the next-of-kin of the OFW should sign as co-borrower in the loan entered into by the OFW and OWWA. The credit should be paid in 12 monthly installments at a preferred interest rate of not more than six percent per annum.

The loan shall be covered with a loan redemption insurance from any private insurance provider duly registered with an accredited by the Insurance Commission.

OWWA will be tasked to accredit as many domestic or foreign banking institutions as possible which are duly authorized to do business in the Philippines in order to serve the loan payment needs of the OFW borrowers.

The OFW will be responsible for remitting the loan payment regularly to OWWA through the accredited banking institutions.

A provision in HB 4985 mandates the establishment of an online payment system one year after the effectivity of the measure to allow OFWs to pay the loan amortization through the Internet.

An OFW’s failure to pay the loan or any violation of the terms imposed upon the loan will be considered as sufficient ground for the POEA and all its offices, including its deputized and accredited private entities and the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) to withhold the issuance of the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) and any other exit permit or clearance to work abroad to him or her.

Any government official or employee who violates the provisions of the measure faces a 60-day suspension without pay for the first offense and dismissal from the service with a five-year disqualification to hold any public office for the second offense.

Meanwhile, a private entity which issues an OEC and exit permit to the OFW who fails to pay the loan will be meted with a 60-day suspension of its license or accreditation for the first offense and permanent cancellation of license or accreditation for the second offense.

The amount needed by OWWA to implement the Credit Assistance Program for OFWs shall be charged against the Overseas Welfare Trust Fund and all payments and interest earned on the loans shall accrue to the Overseas Welfare Trust Fund.

The main authors of HB 4985 are House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales Jr., Tarlac Rep. Susan Yap, Nueva Ecija Rep. Joseph Gilbert F. Violago and OFW party-list Rep. Juan Johnny Revilla.

There are many Filipinos who work abroad. In almost any country that you can think of, chances are there are Filipinos working there. Some don't just work in the country that they're in but have decided to be permanent residents or citizens of the country. They start their new life in the country they've chosen despite still having relatives in the Philippines. The Philippines become their instant vacation destination and sending a BALIKBAYAN box to the philippines becomes a common thing. They build their own relationships and communities in another country yet most of them remain Filipinos at heart.

One of the most common reasons for working abroad is the financial compensation. Most people know that jobs abroad usually pay higher than here in the Philippines. Some overseas workers spend several years working and saving in another country. After saving a considerable amount, they go back to the Philippines to start their own businesses.

Below are some of the most common overseas jobs taken on by Filipinos.

Seaman. There are many Filipino seafarers. They don't really stay in one country and they are the most travelled overseas workers. Most of the time, they are away from their families for a period of six to ten months. After this period, they come back to relax and spend time with their families usually for a duration of two to six months.

Domestic Helper. Filipino domestic helpers are abundant in the nearby Asian countries like Hong Kong and Singapore. If a typical male Filipino overseas worker is a seaman, a typical female Filipino overseas worker is a domestic helper. Their work contract can range from one year up to five years or even more. The longer they are away from their families, the more often they use the services of a philippine courier service to send items to their loved ones.

Teachers. This field of work is fast becoming very popular among Filipinos. One of the reasons for this is the huge demand for teachers in the United States, a very attractive destination for Filipinos.

Nurses and Caregivers. Filipino nurses and caregivers abound in the United States, the Middle East countries, and the United Kingdom. There are many baby boomers in these countries that are now reaching their senior years hence, the need for this type of job.

IT Specialists. There are also a lot of Filipinos working abroad as IT specialists. Most of them have taken on the decision to permanently reside in the country they are working in.

There are many other jobs taken on by Filipinos in other countries. Filipinos are known for their skills, intelligence, and resilience that's why they are able to get work abroad. Life Being An OFW

The day I left to work overseas was one of the saddest days in my life. I was never used to being far away from my family; I would miss the holidays with them, the not so frequent out of town trips, and I was quite worried because I have no idea how it is like working abroad and the fact that I don’t know anybody from where I was going.😦😦😦

In the life of a typical Filipino family, this situation is very common because parents would like to give better future to their loved ones especially for their children. Good opportunities in the Philippines are not abundant to achieve most of their dreams. Working abroad is one way of fulfilling these dreams.🤑🤑🤑

But working abroad does not always give full beneficial returns for each of the Overseas Filipino Workers. Some may be very lucky to have a very kind employer but some may not. Some can get the perfect job that they really wanted, others cannot. Some even get high paying jobs, some do not. Some Overseas Filipino Workers have the opportunity to bring their families with them but some do not.😑😑😑

Along with financial gains from working as an OFW come sad ending stories, disadvantages or sometimes a permanent damage. Take for example the cases of abuse against Filipina domestic helpers or those battling illness alone in a foreign land without any member of the family to attend to your needs and homesickness.😥😥😥

The foundation of the family relationship becomes weak because of the physical distance that is built when one leaves home for another country. Usual contractual jobs would last for two or more years. There are cases that an OFW who left his wife and children in the Philippines would be weak enough to give in to philandering. But this does not happen only abroad, it could also happen with the spouse who was left behind.🙄🙄🙄

Children who are left are usually not guided properly. Sometimes, both parents are working abroad and children would only be left under the guidance of one of their relatives. Sometimes the guardian cannot fully discipline them that can cause children to be stubborn and hard-headed in the long run. Long separation also creates gap between the parents and children; closeness with each other is not that firm or strong anymore.☺☺☺

For the Overseas Filipino Worker, working abroad without saving extra income for the retirement years is one of the biggest mistakes that should be avoided. This is the reason why many Overseas Filipino Workers are coming back to the country for retirement but are not successful. Finding local jobs after working abroad is also a problem for the Ex-Overseas Filipino Workers. Some companies are choosy and don’t want to accept applicants whose job experience is outside Philippines. You can be accepted in a local job sometimes, but the salary would not be the same anymore. That is why, although they would like to stay at home, they are forced to leave the country again and bear the hardships of being alone and far from their loved ones….and so the cycle goes on.😚😚😚

The sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers cannot be avoided, as they need to struggle to fulfill their dreams and to achieve success in life. Those hardships and sacrifices should bear good fruits rather than withered tree.😐😐😐

The life of "OFW" is not easy, they work to foreign country and sacrifice. They go and find a job there, so that they will be able to earn money to support the daily needs and give a better future to their family left here in the Philippines.For parents who are not able to take good care of their own children because they are away and for children who cannot enjoy the company of their parents as they grow. They adjust to almost everything like language, their way of living, culture, customs ,beliefs, foods etc.

Having relatives in abroad is such an opportunity because not everyone can go there, work there and live there. Maybe because they don't have enough money to support the needs and requirements to go abroad. Everyone wanted to work abroad although it is too far and a foreign country, because they know that they can only earn big money if they will work outside the Philippines. 

Unfortunately, there are family who have relatives  work abroad didn't know how's the life of being an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), they didn't give value to all the sacrifices that they did just to give them a good and comfortable life here in Philippines. They just put in there mind that they can buy what they want and go where ever they go or buy those latest gadgets just to impress others, they don't know that sweat and blood flows to their relatives just to earn money. Some sacrifices that the OFW did are celebrating Christmas away from their family, celebrating their birthdays without their family, missed to see the growing up of their children and etc.

Not all OFW have good fortune in the foreign country, one of the issues of  OFW’s are being abused verbally, physically, and emotionally, there are other worker too who died. Despite of that situation, there are many people dreamed to go there and work.They need to gamble their life just to secure the future of their family here.To all Families who have relatives who work abroad, value their efforts and sacrifices that they did because they will not work for the rest of their life there and you didn't know how sad they are to be away from their family.

But, they are our hero too, why? because they give or share little to their salary or we can say they pay tax  which help our country to earn more.Each one of them should be respected and give honored because of all the things that they did is  not just only for their family but also to our country. Some of them bring honor just like being honest and loyal to their patients. Although Philippines once called " THE LAND OF SLAVE ", the Filipinos didn't care the discrimination of other country, instead they continue to work and prove to other country that even they are away from the Philippines, the Filipinos are united as one.

In foreign country, Filipino worker help each other, if someone is abuse by their employer, concerned Filipinos immediately report the incident and help as long as they can. They never let other Filipinos suffered too much because they know that it is not easy to be alone. Life is like a wheel, sometimes it is up and sometimes it is down, however, no matter where they are destined to be, they must move on as they put their trust to the Lord, but the Lord usually doesn’t show us to trust HIM.

 Helping one another and keep on smiling no matter what happen while working in the foreign country are the best attitudes that Filipinos always have. They are truly the new “HERO” of our country, we must give thanks and respect to all the Filipinos work abroad and I am proud that I am a Filipino.

OFW are the foreign countries. They travel abroad to seek better opportunities in order to provide for needs of their family in the Philippines.

Being a OFw is not easy even they tired they work in foreign country and sacrifice the hardship and fight for the homesickness just to earn money for the better.

 Some ofw they are abused but despite of the the situation they still choose to work abroad and gamble their life just to secure their family😐😐😐😙😙😙.

Not to think of others that you are rich now.

Parents have never been tired, they can all be able to handle the firstborn, to make a cellphone to follow the next child, for the youngest Barbie doll, all for the future of their children because they do not want to The children will experience the hardships they have when they are young.

Expectation Vs Reality

Expectation:
     Before going abroad you are happy because you think you can bring your family home life.
You can give them their luxury in life.
You can help your brother's and sister's completes their studies.
You can also help your parents for their needs.
Everything you want to get and achieves.
Everything all you needs you can buy.
And finally you can fulfill your dream of life.

Reality:
    When you go abroad you do not know what kind of person your employer it is GOOD or BAD.
Other employer initially was kind, but later came out of what really was their behavior.
It's hard to go abroad, all you have never experienced in your real country will you experience in other countries where you work.
You really need to work hard for the future of the family.
Work hard for the family.
Experience family desolation.
Experience the difficulty of being separated from the family.
Experience the real difficulty of human life in other countries.
Not eat enough and you want to.

Housemaids Are Human

Housemaids are humans. They get tired after a days’ work. Being the boss does not mean you can just sit and rely everything to your maid, starting from your household chores, children, your needs and those elderly at home.

Treating them like a family and sharing the workload won’t hurt. That thing is just the same as the boss in your company and you as an employee. You will feel wasted if your boss is cruel enough to throw every single work on you.

Site for example elderly people. They are hard to take care of. There will be times when you are obliged to wake at odd times just to attend to their needs.

Elderly people are just like children getting sick. No matter how many maids you hire, unexpected things might happen and you have no hold in it. In the end, you will scold your maid for no reason.

Just like you being scolded by your company boss. You know how hard it is but you still chose to believe them.

A person who works too much becomes tired and easily angered. Giving maids more understanding will make them happy. Treat them as a member of the family and not a mere maid.
