Netizens Feel Touched by Photos Showing Employer’s Care Towards Helper
A lot of heartbreaking stories have been written about employers who have maltreated their helpers and even killed them, at worse. It’s a part of a sad reality that these OFWs leave their families to serve other people, yet they were treated unjustly and inconsiderably. However, it’s still nice to know that there are certain employers who are still kind-hearted as they treat their helpers as part of their family or even as a buddy, too.
This photo touched many netizens upon seeing a Chinese employer walking with the helper on her arms in Hong Kong, saying this was a very rare scenario. Looking at the photo, we can discern that the employer was treating her helper well and that they are very comfortable with each other.
In fact, it was given as man’s nature that if one gets treated well, the other will reciprocate by becoming even much better. By letting the people feel the concern of other people towards them, they will tend to become more productive and even more efficient. In turn, they will also reciprocate their concern believing that a good deed begets a good deed, too.
Kudos to this Chinese employer who was able to change the negative thinking of some people towards foreign employers. The world needs so much of employers like her whose heart goes to the OFWs seeking to feel like a member of the family that they serve while being apart with their own.
"Yes.....Not All Employers Around The Country's BAD".

Proud Filipino Risks His Own Life To Save Two Chinese
A Filipino Risks Own Life to Save Two Chinese Nationals in the Middle of Typhoon “Hato”
Filipinos are highly preferred by foreign employers for being known to be of good character, being hard working, industrious and diligent. This time, another Filipino proved that these qualities are innate characteristics of being a Filipino anywhere in the world.
Recently, typhoon “Hato” has hit Macau and Hong Kong where a lot of houses and properties were damaged brought by strong winds and heavy rains in its maximum category 10.
A TV news report has shown a ‘heroic’ deed from a Filipino who saved two Chinese nationals trapped in the middle of a flood with wooden debris floating in turbulent waters.
According to the report, Loreto, the husband of a certain Jhunnafe Mijares risked his life to save a Chinese who has been submerged in water struggling against water up to neck high.
Jhunnafe was able to film the incident as Loreto went on top of a stranded car and got the Chinese using a life buoy.
Chinese residents from the third floor of a nearby building helped Loreto by throwing some ropes which he later on used to remove the second Chinese citizen out of danger.
Kudos to this brave Filipino who risked his life just to be able to help others in times of need!

OFW Shares Story On Restoring Life After Disastrous Typhoon "Yolanda"
First OFW Business Loan Recipient Shares Story on Restoring Life After Disastrous Typhoon “Yolanda”
Reina Manzan is the first recipient of the OFW’s Business Loan Program by OWWA. The former OFW who was working in Israel was very thankful for the 2-Billion OFW Reintegration Program or 2B ORP now known as the OFW Enterprises and Development Loan Program, since she and her family will get to start a livelihood after they had suffered a disastrous typhoon last 2013 hitting Western Visayas region which includes Iloilo, the place where they live.
Apparently, Reina, her husband, Ireneo and their two children were relocated from their house in Lemery, Iloilo to Hamtic, Antique before typhoon ‘Yolanda’ hit Western Visayas on November 8, 2013. Their home in Iloilo was among those houses which were ravaged and ruined.
Reina worked in Israel in 2007 and flew back to the Philippines after her employer died on 2011.
Luckily, Reina was able to put in some savings for being an OFW for 4 years and used a part of it to put up a motorcycle parts shop right in their own home. This helped their family start building their ‘dreams’ again after the trauma that typhoon Yolanda has brought.
The family’s motorcycle parts business had become successful since many residents in Antique were using motorcycles and tricycles as form of commuting and source of livelihood. But though their business had been running smoothly, they applied for the 2B ORP from the Land Bank of the Philippines to expand their shop by adding more stocks and to venture into another business—a sari-sari store.
They were also able to purchase a banca which they used for fishing and thereafter, sell the fishes and seafoods to nearby towns and cities.
With her husband Ireneo, a former farmer.
Reina is happy to share that despite the trials that they had gone through, they were able to ‘rise’ again and was thankful to say that she never missed any payment for her loans.
“I never missed payment. I always pay back my loan on time,” Reina said.
As of this writing, the former OFW is organizing an OFW Family Circle group in Hamtic which according to her was one way of helping fellow OFWs to be more productive and responsible in managing their hard-earned money.

Sarah Balabagan Story
Do you still remember Sarah Balagan?
It was in the year 1994 when the story of an OFW named Sarah Balabagan spread around the globe when she stabbed her 67-year-old employer named Almas Mohammed Al-Baloushi 34 times for defending herself as her widow employer attempted to rape her.
Sarah was only 14 years old when she worked as a domestic helper in United Arab Emirates but her recruiter faked her age and declared that she was already 28.
Initially, Sarah was sentenced to death but only served a year behind bars along with 100 lashes and blood money amounting to 100 Million pesos which was paid as a donation by a Filipino businessman named William Gatchalian.
In 1996, Sarah came back to the Philippines with a hero’s welcome from her kababayans after she successfully settled her case in UAE.
Thirty years after, Sarah Balabagan-Sereno is now living happily and peacefully in Las Vegas with her husband and five children.
Sarah as a devout Christian and armed with a deep Christian faith is an advocate for fellows who were victims and survivors of human trafficking.
When asked how she felt by looking back at what happened to her, Sarah shared, “Not only I was fighting for my life, not only I am fighting for my honor as a woman, but I’m fighting for my family. At that moment, I need to survive.”
“Napaka imprtante yung paninindigan mo, if you know its right fight for it. At wag kang matakot, God is with you,” she added.

A woman who has left her husband
Woman with her boyfriend
This Man Her Husband
Married OFWs who live away from their spouses for prolonged periods of time are often subject to temptation. In many cases, an OFW will engage in an affair while away from home. This is mainly due to any number of factors such as loneliness, discontentment, homesickness, and many others.
Such was the case with this female OFW who was caught cheating on her husband.
The OFW shared the details of her infidelity through a Facebook post. In the post, one can clearly see that the woman looked very sweet with the man that she was with. She even captioned it “Paint My Love.” Suffice it to say, the man she was with was not her husband.
The OFW’s husband asked for Raffy Tulfo’s help to deal with his wife’s infidelity. In her defense, the cheating wife said that the man in the photo was just a friend and the caption came from the lyrics of a song which she claims meant nothing.

OFW:Better Learn Here And Now
Better learn here and now. Common mistakes OFW make in the use of English nouns
Filipinos are respected as prized workers around the world for their English language prowess, hard work, honesty and great service ethics. English is the single most unifying business communication language of the increasingly inter-connected networked globalized world, where skilled workforce mobility works in favour of globe-trotting OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers).
The Philippines is ranked number one in the world for Business English proficiency by the GlobalEnglish Corporation, a provider of cloud-based software to advance English literacy in global organizations. Next top five are Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, and Australia.
According to the worldmap.com, Philippines has a very high percentage of English speakers with 92/5% behind UK 97.7% and USA 95.8%. Philippines is also has world’s third largest English speaking population with nearly 90 million English speakers, behind 251 million in USA and 125 million in India, all ahead of 59 million English speakers of UK.
Of course, not all Filipino possess the English language proficiency in the same measures. One in five USA tech workers are non-native English speakers. Forbes, one of the world’s most respected business publications, lists low English language proficiency as a threat to the success in business and career. To excel and succeed, OFW are recommended to continue to polish their English skills.
Despite Philippines having a large number and percentage of English language speakers with top-ranked Business English language proficiency in the international surveys, some OFW make plenty of mistakes in English. To help OFW improve their English language skills, the most common mistakes made in the usage of English nouns are listed below. Covered here is the list of nouns whose singular and plural forms are same i.e. always use the singular form of these nouns even for denoting the plural scenario. Never insert “s” or “es”, etc at the end of these nouns.
Common mistakes include foods, moods, stuff, staffs, advices, polices, fishes, buffaloes, etc, all these are wrong. Examples below are equally useful for those wishing to improve their English as well for the Filiophile wishing to pickup Tagalog language vocabulary.

Filipina In Hongkong Beated
An Old Chinese Man Beating a Filipina in South Horizon Market in Hong Kong
At Marina Wet Market in South Horizon Market, Hong Kong, was a Filipina who was hit by an old Chinese who immediately left after hurting her. The Filipina was seen crying and was saying bad remarks against the Chinese who seemed really hurt as she acquired some bruises.
Apparently, the specific reason why the Chinese got angry was not established but it was assumed that maybe the Filipina has bumped into him or the wheels of the trolley which she was pulling rolled over his feet. It was seen that they were in a public market and possibly, the pathways were not wide enough so people cannot move freely.
According to the netizens who were also working in Hong Kong, it was a common scenario to see old Chinese people behave like that as they were too sensitive. Nonetheless, they still condemned what he did to the woman because it was not proper and ungentlemanly.
However, some netizens say, the Filipina should have reported the incident to the police right away and for which, they can review the CCTV footages as proof of how she acquired her physical injuries. They said, she should not be afraid to fight for her right as in Hong Kong, people were treated equally regardless of race.
It was noted however that most of the comments of the netizens were bursting with anger which provoked them to say that the Filipina should fight him back and be not afraid to defend herself.
However, Mc Dolinguez stated his side and said that when someone in the actual situation, it would somehow be hard to control one’s anger but we have to be patient otherwise we may lost our jobs. He also mentioned that Chinese people have all the means to pay for their bail when they get jailed so it would be best if we would just control our emotions and don’t fight back.
With this statement, some netizens did not agree with Dolinguez and said that the reason why the Chinese were treating Filipinos that way was because we let them consider us inferior than them. Most of them said that we don’t have to be afraid if we know we are doing the right thing.
As of press time, it was however unknown if the Filipina would file a complaint against the old Chinese man.

Credit Loans To OFWs
House of Congress Approved House Bill 4985 Granting Credit Loans to OFWs
Under House Bill 4985 or the proposed Overseas Workers Credit Assistance Act, OFWs may borrow up to P50,000 from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to defray the living expenses of his or her family during the first months of absence or to pay for recruitment expenses including placement fees, documentation costs and plane tickets.
However, only OFWs with valid employment contracts processed through licensed recruitment and manning agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) may avail themselves of a loan.
Under the proposed legislation, the next-of-kin of the OFW should sign as co-borrower in the loan entered into by the OFW and OWWA. The credit should be paid in 12 monthly installments at a preferred interest rate of not more than six percent per annum.
The loan shall be covered with a loan redemption insurance from any private insurance provider duly registered with an accredited by the Insurance Commission.
OWWA will be tasked to accredit as many domestic or foreign banking institutions as possible which are duly authorized to do business in the Philippines in order to serve the loan payment needs of the OFW borrowers.
The OFW will be responsible for remitting the loan payment regularly to OWWA through the accredited banking institutions.
A provision in HB 4985 mandates the establishment of an online payment system one year after the effectivity of the measure to allow OFWs to pay the loan amortization through the Internet.
An OFW’s failure to pay the loan or any violation of the terms imposed upon the loan will be considered as sufficient ground for the POEA and all its offices, including its deputized and accredited private entities and the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) to withhold the issuance of the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) and any other exit permit or clearance to work abroad to him or her.
Any government official or employee who violates the provisions of the measure faces a 60-day suspension without pay for the first offense and dismissal from the service with a five-year disqualification to hold any public office for the second offense.
Meanwhile, a private entity which issues an OEC and exit permit to the OFW who fails to pay the loan will be meted with a 60-day suspension of its license or accreditation for the first offense and permanent cancellation of license or accreditation for the second offense.
The amount needed by OWWA to implement the Credit Assistance Program for OFWs shall be charged against the Overseas Welfare Trust Fund and all payments and interest earned on the loans shall accrue to the Overseas Welfare Trust Fund.
The main authors of HB 4985 are House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales Jr., Tarlac Rep. Susan Yap, Nueva Ecija Rep. Joseph Gilbert F. Violago and OFW party-list Rep. Juan Johnny Revilla.

Heartless Employer
This photo of Domestic Helper In Singapore Watches her Employer eating will melt your heart.
Life is really hard being in a different country. That is, way, way far from the life that we have in the Philippines.
Let’s take for instance the post of a certain Blessie Barbosa Beralde on her Facebook account about a scene that she saw in a fast food in Singapore.
She was about to buy food for her breakfast when this scene catches her attention.
She saw a domestic helper sitting right beside her employer just watching her eat.
As this was a sad scenario for her, she attempted to give food to the girl but she was hesitant as the employer might get angry with her gesture.
Where is justice for these Singaporean employers?
It was a sad thing, but that was the reality for most of the domestic helpers in Singapore.
She also shares her sentiments saying that people might be thinking that living abroad as an OFW would mean living life luxuriously.
But people just don’t what their real condition is.
And having said that, they just don’t know that in Singapore, OFW’s are deprived of being feed.
A very sad incident, but a reality, that every OFW is facing in the hands of their heartless employers.

Employers Of Pinay Overseas Worker Arrested
The Hong Kong police had arrested the employers of a Pinay Overseas Worker last August 18, who died on July for jumping from a building in Shenzhen.
Jenevieve A. Javier, sister of the late Lorain Asuncion, has requested for a private forensic examination because the body has never been autopsied by the time Javier and their aunt flew back to Manila. The said examination was more intensive than the tests performed by Shenzhen police because the family has remained doubtful of the real reason of Asuncion’s death.
The officers from the Anti-Triad and Organized Crime Bureau arrested the male employer surnamed Gu, 47 years old and her wife surnamed Liu, 32 years old, both Hongkong residents for being charged with conspiracy to defraud.
They showed up at the police headquarters in Wanchai for an investigation, however, they were then released on bail and were advised to come back in September to undergo further investigations.
They were suspected to have made a false statement to the relevant government department, claiming that the female foreign domestic helper employed by them would work in Hong Kong only, a police spokesman said.
Apparently, Asuncion fell from a building in Shenzhen last July 24 during the time that her employers had sent her to work in a relative’s home. Cases like this has been highlighted about the workers being brought by employers to work in another place other than the address stated on the contract between the helper and the employer. This is basically considered illegal in Hong Kong.
Javier said that Asuncion was obliged to join her employers in their trip to Shenzhen last July 22 but she was surprised upon learning that Liu’s father was the only one in the house when they arrived the place. This was even confirmed by a letter submitted by Shenzhen police to the Philippine Consulate.
The Police had also noted that Asuncion has been taken by her employers in China four times already within the nine months that she was employed. Considering this fact, the Immigration then referred the case to be potentially considered a human trafficking case.
However, Javier and their aunt said that Asuncion’s face was intact and there were no bruises nor any other traces that the victim had fallen from the 22 floor where Lui’s father was staying.
Both of them also underwent series of investigations by the Hong Kong police to establish facts concerning stories being shared with them by Asuncion before she died.
Javier expressed that she was happy with how the case of her sister’s death has been running so far and she hopes it will push thru until the truth comes out.

Reyma Poquiz Story(DH)
Domestic Helper in Riyadh Saudi, Arabia Went Home to Philippines Just Wearing Her Undies
On August 15, 2017, has enraged viewers when they learned that an OFW who worked as a domestic helper in Riyadh Saudi, Arabia went home to the country just wearing her undies.
According to the video, Reyma Poquiz arrived recently at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport just wearing her bra and panty because the sister of her female employer required her to remove her clothes before she left.
Unfortunately, the OFW had a traumatic experience abroad when she suffered in the hands of her ruthless employers. Reyma narrated that she was confined in a comfort room and was denied to being fed. She was only able to survive by means of drinking water from the toilet bowl.
Reyma said that she started to be unjustly treated last August 8, when she asked from her female employer as to when will her salary for 3 months be given to her. Instead of answering her question, she was then locked in the comfort room.
The OFW also informed the show that her employer got the money which she saved amounting to P 36,800 pesos including her jewelries and other goods which she was about to bring home to her family in the Philippines.
Last August 9, she received a statement from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh advising her to just wait until the time that she will be rescued.
Seeing that there were no immediate actions on the part of the Embassy yet, her husband went to her Philippine Agency, Ana International Employment Agency on August 12 to inform them of Reyma’s situation and asked for help. Unfortunately, help was still not extended to her.
Pissed off, of what seemed to be negligence on the part of the Philippine Embassy and the agency, Ben Tulfo called Sec. Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment and asked for a tangible solution of Reyma’s case. The secretary then said he will look closely on the case and will require the agency to pay for all the damages that Reyma has incurred for working abroad with the employer that the agency had contracted for her.
Finally, towards the end of the show, Reyma Poquiz was seen to be smiling which may be perceived that she is now quite sure that for whatever difficulties she had in the hands of her ruthless employers, in the end, she will be vindicated.

We often hear stories of OFWs suffering in the hands of their employers abroad. It is already a common story among Pinoy overseas that we usually hear.
But in the case of this employer, it was her pinay OFW who turns her head ache so much.
This employer tagged her domestic helper Ednalyn Balubayan as a ‘terrible‘ woman for bringing her Bangladesh boyfriend in their house when they are out to work.
Her employer already sought for public attention to be very careful of Balubayan because of her behavior.
Allegedly, the men she brought in their home maltreats her children when she was not at home.
Her children were also threatened not to confess to anyone.
Her twins complain about it despite of the alleged warning, prompting her to seek the police.

Chinese Women Shouted A Filipina Because She's "So Fat" In HongKong Bus
Riding in a public transportation may let you meet a lot of people from different walks of life. While some may be considerate in sharing a seat, this incident is among those you would most likely don’t want to happen to you.
A post on social media by Angela Sentillas Pasco described the woman that she happened to be seated with as disrespectful, racist and judgmental.
Such a Disrespectful, Racist, and Judgemental woman. The story is when i got on the bus in kwai chung. she was seating with her bag then when i sat down, it was a bit tight as she didn’t take her bag away. she started yelling saying that im too fat and told me to get off the bus. then i told her so what if im fat, that’s not your problem. Later I started to film her as she kept yelling at me in chinese. some of the things in translation means that i’m a slave/helper in hong kong. that, i should go back to my country because hong kong is for chinese people LOL. she swore at me, calling me names, disrespecting my race. Funny part in between, she said that my iphone is outdated and that she has the best latest phone – samsung hahha Anyway, I just ignored her as there’s no point to fight with her. A passenger on the bus talked to her telling her its a public area and that she should contain herself and calm down. Thats why she finally stop in the end.
According to her narration, Pasco rode a bus in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong and sit right beside a woman with a bag beside her. When Pasco sitted, the woman who should have removed her bag from the seat to give space to Pasco started to yell at her as perhaps she felt they were tightly sitting together in one seat.
Pasco added that the woman has been saying harsh words against her in the Chinese language which some of the words she understood was that the woman was telling her that she is too fat and she is just a slave who should go back to her country because Hong Kong is only for Chinese people.
The rude woman also tagged her with many names which showed disrespect to Pasco’s nationality, being a Filipino at that.
It may be perceived that Pasco has a better personality than this bitter woman for she still managed to laugh at what she’s doing to her rudely, Pasco found it funny when the mean woman told her that her iPhone was outdated with the woman’s Samsung phone claiming it was the latest model.
Regardless of what the woman did, Pasco had maintained her calmness and decided not to fight back with the mean, racist, ill-mannered passenger.
Gladly, Pasco said that another passenger told the woman that she should calm down for she was in a public area which made her eventually stop the talking.
Kudos to Pasco who showed that she doesn’t need to also be rude to show that she was right. She might not be richer than the woman whom she had bumped into, but for sure, she was richer in terms of good character and moral values.
You made Pinoys proud of being a Filipino, Pasco!

HongKong Employer Slammed For Banning Housemaid From Using Air-Con
A Facebook post in an employer’s group in Hong Kong went viral this week after she expressed her anger towards her helper who switched on the air-conditioning unit in her room without permission on one high humid night of 86 degrees Fahrenheit in temperature.
According to a screen shot of the now deleted post of the employer on a closed group for Hong Kong employers, the employer who was identified as Wong, said that she was very pissed off with her helper whom she described to be ill-mannered and rude.
And in order for her helper not to be able to open the air-conditioning unit, she said she will remove the unit’s switch.
However, it seems like she has found someone to back her up in her statements in the person of Michael Lee, a politician who heads the group of employers. He is also a councilor and spokesperson of the Liberal Party’s Task Force on Foreign Helper’s problems. He speaks on behalf of the employers of the helpers.
According to politician Michael Lee, helpers should be accustomed to the very humid weather as they also came from ‘hot’ countries. He also said that the helpers should follow their employer’s house rules.
“If they come from the hot country, they should get used to the hot weather,” Lee also said in an interview.
However, Lee gave in to the idea of allowing the helpers to turn on the air-conditioning units in the evening so they can have a better sleep and in turn, can work well in the morning.
“Otherwise she can’t sleep, then she can’t work,” said Lee.
“I recommend all employers in Hong Kong set up house rules saying what they can and cannot do,” added Lee.
On the other hand, campaigners who were on the side of the helpers said that the restrictions made in using air-conditioning units was considered unfair and inhumane.
Eni Lestari, a former domestic helper and now the spokeswoman for the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body said, “To regulate the foreign domestic helpers in using air conditioning is inhumane and will cause deterioration to their health.”
They also sought reforms in ending the “two-week” rule where helpers must leave Hong Kong within 14 days after they left their jobs.
Home to 340,000 migrant domestic helpers who are mostly coming from the Philippines and Indonesia, it was noted that in 2015, Hongkong has made international headlines after an employer was sentenced to be jailed for six years for abusing the helper named Erwiana Sulistyaningsih..
As of Press time, the Hong Kong government showed no signs of taking back the said regulations.

Filipina Helper Dies In Mainland China From Hong Kong
The case of a domestic helper named Lorain Asuncion, a 28-year-old Filipina who worked in Hong Kong who fell from the building and died last month is still under investigation by the authorities. However, officials said that the tragedy can be a case of human trafficking.
It was known that prior to Asuncion’s death, she came to the place where she died after she was sent there to work by her Hong Kong employers. Her case alarmed the local employers for sending out their helpers to work illegally outside the city for it was such a dangerous move to take.
In fact, the number of cases of Hong Kong employers who take helpers to the mainland has increased in years even if it wasn’t stated on the helper’s contract. In the end, the helpers ended up working illegally for families in mainland.
The family of Asuncion went to Hong Kong to seek answers about her death and they even shared that Asuncion had mentioned before her fear of going to the mainland accompanied by her employer. They said that Asuncion was taken to the mainland for about four times since October 2016 when she began working for the couple.
According to her Aunt, Susan Escorial, Asuncion said she was afraid working in the mainland because of the language and that she doesn’t have access to social networks which made it difficult for her to get in touch with them.
“Last time, she was even more afraid because she would not be with her real employer,” Escorial added. She said that her niece was left in Shenzhen with another relative while her employers went to a vacation. Asuncion complained also that she didn’t have enough rest and was not allowed to go home to the Philippines on holidays. Nonetheless, because she has a lot of friends and relatives in Hong Kong, she did not show signs of depressions or personal problems.
Aside from the fact that the family was informed last July 24 by a Hong Kong employment agency of Asuncion’s death after she fell 7 floors from an apartment building in Shenzhen, they had no other details. They said that the Hong Kong employer was not willing to meet with them and rather preferred to answer their questions thru the Consulate.
“We were told that she jumped. But we think the death of my sister is very suspicious. We want to know what happened and have justice,” said Jenevieve Javier, 29.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Post, The Hong Kong’s Immigration Department representative who was notified by the Consulate referred to the police the case of Asuncion for a follow-up action for being suspected as a human-trafficking case.
The police on the other hand, confirmed that they will gather the necessary facts in their investigation and reiterates that such case will not be tolerated in Hong Kong.
Asuncion’s body was in a morgue in Shenzhen as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Philippine Consulate in Guangzhou. They were in constant communication with Guangdong Public Security Department to obtain police reports, the autopsy and the death certificate.
Danilo Baldon, an assistant to nationals at the consulate in Hong Kong confirmed that their office received about four complaints from the domestic helpers who were taken in mainland China but helpers didn’t file formal complaints for fear of having their contracts terminated
Holly Allan, director of HELP for Domestic Workers a group that supports helpers in Hong Kong said that over the past year that the same case has become more frequent. Based from their record, they received at least one same case in a month.
Cynthia Abdon-Tellez, General Manager of the Mission for Migrant Workers also said that over the past year, her NGO were also receiving an estimate of 10-20 cases of the same.
As a warning, Abdon-Tellez informed employers who took their helpers abroad should be cautious as they were subjecting them to work without a permit where they work as tourist and that they are already breaching the contract, making them responsible for whatever might happen.
And if the employers were proven of doing these violations, the Department of Labor said they will be assessed prior to their hiring of future helpers.
Labor Department also warns that if an employer makes a false statement to the immigration for deploying helpers in mainland, the employer will be prosecuted and might be subjected to pay a fine of HK$150,000 (US$ 19,100) and 14 years imprisonment.
US State Department’s annual report on human-trafficking in June also confirmed cases where there were some foreign domestic workers who signed contracts in working in Hong Kong, but were sent to work in mainland China when they arrive.
Advocates have raised their concerns against human trafficking law, as current provisions do not permit human-trafficking whose purpose leads prostitution, but not for forced labor.
Overall, Asuncion’s family is seeking legal aid to pursue compensation claims in the city. The family still Overall, Asuncion’s family is seeking legal aid to pursue compensation claims in the city. The family still mourns over her loss which they said things will never be the same again. She will be missed going home to the Philippines, particularly going back to the house which she was building as part of her dreams.
“She was a very hardworking girl, and she was aiming at many things.”
“We hope this does not happen to others."
